DEATH BY DISOBEDIENCE | WITH KAYA COCOE (MARK IN SILENCE DEVOTIONAL SERIES) DAY 1 OF 7
DEATH BY DISOBEDIENCE
There is a cost to every situation under the sun...
May you come to understand that disobedience is not merely obeying it is protection either way you seem to know or rather not know. For in the book of 1st Chronicles chapter 10 which I encourage you to read to get a full scope of what is conveyed in this devotional for today. We see that Saul is being pursued by the Philistines and they are unrelenting in their cause. We also see that Saul is running for his life much like the way David had ran from Saul. However, upon getting wounded by one of the Philistines' archers...Saul says to his armourbearer that he should take his sword and thrust it through him for he feared if captured, the Philistines would abuse him. So, then the armourbearer would not do what he asked of him and Saul fell upon the sword himself.
In a matter of moments Saul's entire house died.
Why did he die? Well, coming to the end of the chapter we see that Saul died not only a painful death, but a death for transgression which he committed against the Lord, against his word that he did not keep and for asking counsel from one that had a familiar spirit to inquire of it. He did not regard the Lord or his instruction.
Likewise, because of this his kingdom was turned unto David the son of Jesse.
Sometimes, if not mostly, we see that our enemy receives that which they are putting out against us and often we see it come to an end, even that which we thought would be forever. It is a cautionary tale for the most part as Saul, being chased as he chased after David, being pursued by the Philistines and yet he knew he was going to be captured, eventually.
All of this because of not obeying the Lord.
God knows all, but when we decide to go against what God is telling us we place ourselves in God's authority. We seat ourselves as God, because we are likewise saying we know better than him. Let me advise you and myself that we are to never underestimate the Lord, never think we are better in our knowledge and we didn't even make ourselves--we can't tell our hearts to stop beating much less control our breathing...we do not even have access to our spirit to tell it to depart. So, where does this come from?
Pride. The pride of the devil is that he wanted to exalt himself before and above the throne of God, not only does he want to be God, but he wants to shame the True God also...
There is a reason for this: the devil is a murderer from the beginning. Murderers have no eternal life in them. Even those who hate another, is counted with those who murder. For hate is a seed for murdering just like with Cain.
If one is wise enough to read and understand take this for thought: For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
Where does one think to know that God's commands are grievous? It is a lie; the devil uses lies to get us off course with God so that he will murder you after. It is how Saul, through deceptive evils had come to his demise.
But remember...always: For whatsover is born of God overcomes the world. (See 1 John 5:4-5)
You, accepting Christ, knowing his love for you through the sight of the cross...understanding that the only way to the Father is through him because he is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. (See John 14:6) That this is the call of redemption, obeying is protection in the form that God knows all.
We have to get to that place where nothing will jeopardize, misinform, and nullify our destiny in God. For what do you think is more important?
This is the first post to a 7-DAY devotional series: MARK IN SILENCE
The Nature of Men is to begin, exploring the call of God, being marked by him and our impact in a world where darkness is not only prevalent but tries to overtake us, but God is the author and finisher of our faith. Having marked those long ago, before the foundation of the world.
