LIFE WITH FEAR | WITH KAYA COCOE (BEFORE NIGHT THOUGHTS SERIES)
LIFE WITH FEAR
There are reasons why you haven't even tried and it's not because you are afraid...
When you think about 2 Timothy 1:7, "For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (Self-Control)." I want you to think about the fear of the Lord, aren't they different? Some like to think so...but what if the whole idea is context rather than that awful word that seems to dive both ways: fear.
Again, to fear is divided by meaning and that which cannot standalone as just "being" afraid. Afterall, I do not think God wants us afraid of him or his divinity; however, respect is granted to those who "fear" him.
What does fear have to do with anything? Why do we fear?
It seems to be a necessary survival technique to keep us in line or rather could I say aligned with safety. The technique of fear is to remain safe, that is why you are doing what you are used to in this moment of not trying--for it is safer. That is the trick you do not see but feel. It is true in nature that if you do not try at anything you might as well say you are "safe" and that your "safeguard" is because you are fearing the outcome.
The outcome is nothing but a realization of what you are avoiding trying to do. It is the simplicity of not doing than it actually being done. Fear is a limiter because it limits growth between the current of actually doing. It short-circuits the effect of input and voids it so to speak. It can keep you safe, but to what extent are you trying to remain safe...while you are here on earth, right? There's nothing wrong with wanting to be safe. Nothing.
Though, when taking risks fear is still involved because we do not want to be reckless. Now, in the scripture above I do not think it is fear that creates safety here, let me explain...this scripture in context refers to the "being" afraid.
Fear is multifaceted, either way you turn it delivers a different meaning of perspective.
It is not inherently bad to feel fear but to be afraid is inherently taxing. For instance, if we are "afraid" of God we fraud ourselves into believing he will harm us. That is what I believe 2 Timothy 1:7 is stating he did not give us a spirt of fear, but we are to fear God in terms of respecting his place as God just as one would an elder or parent or higher authority.
In conclusion, fear is a result of keeping one safe...if we think about it in the scriptures, it is the result of being afraid and in result of God--wholly respect. What does fear mean to you?
The moment your life becomes fear in any way you may perceive it...just know that the meaning is divisible as well as the execution of how you will let it affect you.
Fear could be your wings,
holding you back from everything
because it feels safe, even keeping yourself from a loving God...
and what he called you to do.
