BLOCK, WRITER'S BLOCK | WITH KAYA COCOE

BLOCK, WRITER'S BLOCK WITH KAYA COCOE

Sometimes it's not that you are experiencing Writer's Block...there's something blocking you.

Don't get salty...we know that it's not possible to be so content with a cube head. Ideas blocked on every side and there is no way to get them out. Okay, maybe this dilemma isn't that funny. Instead, it is actually quite terrifying. Especially, if you have a deadline. It is the way that writer's block appears that creates a scary truth--you have nothing. Literally.

Nothing to write about, think about, converse about...its hollow winds tunneling through well, your fascinating cube head...the ideas keep getting stuck on every side. How does this happen and better yet why?

What could cause a blockage of the flow you once so gently endured? Wait...you did have an idea, but it fell flatter than the feet of a donkey going north. So, what happened? Don't think I have the answer.

You have the answer.

You know when it started and yes, you know why and how to fix this.

First, move aside. You are thinking too much and now your head is shaped like a cube, metaphorically speaking. At least, that is what Writer's block feels like...every time you try to get an idea out on paper you get poked by a sharp corner. It is easier to say you have nothing right now and go on to the next thing...it'll pass or maybe it won't. Then, you return only for it to be more paradoxical corners welcoming your inner thoughts.

When you feel you have nothing to show for and there is a deadline, think...what has God already given me? Where has the Lord showed me in prayer about this idea? Even, praying about fresh new ideas will become vital.

For we are in God, we move and have our being in and through him. (See Acts 17:28) We cannot do anything without God, meaning also, we cannot be successful without committing to God first. (See Proverbs 16:3). You have to entrust the plans to God, fully committing your intentions. There's enough you have done on your own.

Thinking. Moving. Seeing...all at the expense of not adhering to the voice of the Holy Spirit.

You cannot do this alone. We've been there done that...got the death certificate. (It's better that we don't congratulate any of that for what do we really have to show for it?)

We are to realize and hopefully, early, that God has given us gifts. So, precious we are to use them for his glory. We don't have to sprinkle in the name, "God" or "Jesus" in doing so we do ourselves the injustice of being a mocker.

You can speak about God clearly by just being who he called you to be in Christ. Your light shines.

It is best we...let it.

Write the story God gave you...don't follow trends, algorithms, processes...every other practical jargon. Write the story that is on your heart, you are reaching an audience through audacity, authenticity and frankly...radical.

Don't sit any longer. Pray, ask God what story is to be told. I am sure, it is one you know how to write.
